Intentional Living
Turn your can’ts into cans and your dreams into plans!
Do you secretly crave happiness? Whether we like to admit it or not, it is the driving force behind every decision and choice we make in life.
But what is true happiness is? It is a mirage, an idea, maybe an illusion … For most of us, we aren’t ‘happy’, we feel out of control of our lives, our relationships, trying to manage our children, we avoid dealing with difficult life decisions or hide away from conflict.
If you’re serious about gaining control of how you feel about your life, we encourage trying to live an intentional life.
The first place to start is to identify your goals, personal values and the things that bring you true joy.
This will help you to unlock your potential, become aligned to your true purpose and live intentionally.
Start with a blank piece of paper and write down the activities that bring you energy and that add value to your life. These are the things that make you feel happy, alive and energised. Freewriting or listing everything you can think of is a great place to start. Some questions to ask yourself might be; Do I love to travel? Do I feel energised by the little moments, like walking along the beach with your partner, or having coffee with a friend? Take the time to really look into the things that add to your energy.
Then work on identifying your 1 year, 3 year and 5 year life stage intentions. These intentions will generally be related to the energy activities you have just identified. What do I want to be doing this time next year? What do I want to be talking about in three years time? Is there a place I want to travel to but need time to work my finances and personal life – can this happen by my 5 year stage? Only work on 2 intentions for each time period.
Schedule it! Try and schedule at least one activity that brings you energy each week.
Take responsibility for your own actions, behaviours, words – live intentionally!! Scheduling even an hour activity will reinforce your every intention. We always have a choice about how our time is spent – what will your choice be?
Break your longer time intentions into a timeline, and then schedule these too. Living intentionally without any action plans will mean you just keep living … with no intention or value.
It’s important to be working on the plans to get you to where you want to be. If you need additional help, this is the stage to engage with your coach who can help you map out your plans. Having someone who can keep you accountable on your journey is one of the keys to success.
Remember, life does not always go to plan. Shit happens, our plans get mucked around – this is a fact. Don’t be surprised when life throws you off course. There is no point in becoming bitter or angry about this, and holding onto negative energy will only pull you further away from your intentional life.
Have a look at our post on the F*&k it Bucket – maybe this is the time you need one too!
Don’t forget to move your body everyday – exercise releases endorphins to make us feel better, it helps us sleep better at night, and also gives us extra energy.
Extra energy = faster achievement of our intentions!
Have a fantastic week.
